History & present

Fragment Publishing House was established in 1991. The founders and owners are Ing. Jan Eisler and Ing. Pavel Nyc.

The very first book by Fragment entitled The Tables of Indefinite Integrals was published in 1991 with a printing of 1.000 and was sold out within six months. After this successful first fruit, both owners, still university students at the time, decided to focus in their new publishing company on textbooks, dictionaries and non-fiction.

The evergreen in all bookshops countrywide is the historically No. 1 bestseller of Fragment: English-Czech and Czech-English Pocket Dictionary. It was launched as early as in 1991 and the evidence of its success are tens of thousands reprints every year.

In 1992, Fragment launched its first picture folding-book for the youngest "readers" called Baby Animals. Others followed.

Until 1995, the publishers produced only original works. Nowadays, 2/3 of the whole production are adopted titles. We also successfully expand to foreign markets. By the end of 2008, we sold almost 300 original projects abroad.

Nowadays, Fragment Publishing House is one of the biggest and recognized publishers in the Czech Republic with a turnover over 100 million CZK. We have published over 1.600 various titles up to now.

We also regularly participate in Czech book fairs in Prague, Havlickuv Brod and Jicin. Every year, our original titles are also presented at the book fairs in Bologna and Frankfurt on the Main.

In 2005, we celebrated opening of a new branch in Bratislava, Slovakia. Up till now, more than 500 new titles were published in the Slovakian branch.
